MULTIPLE DICIPLINES

Becoming a Union Firefighter does not only limit you to firefighting duties. Lieutenant Kozel and Chief Monson show the different gear for some different tasks you may wish to do. Lt. Kozel is seen in her Water Rescue Gear. Union offers the chance to join the Water Rescue Team. Firefighters are sent to Water rescue classes (at no cost to the firefighter) to become a member of the Team. Union is a part of the West Seneca Water Rescue Team, which not only operate in town, but are sometimes called to assist other jurisdictions in places like Zoar Valley. Chief Monson can be seen in a full set of Structural Firefighting Gear which includes Helmet, Facepiece, Turnout Jacket, SCBA (Self contained breathing apparatus), Radio, Bunker Pants with GEMTOR Harness and Boots.

Union Builds Professional Relationships as well as Friendships

Captain P. Wzientek and Lieutenant Kozel are seen "hanging out" with Firefighter Tay on the Back of (now retired) Union Engine 3.

Build Relationships with the Community

Firefighters take to the street on Halloween Night to pass out candy to trick-or-treaters.

Rope Rescue

Firefighters take to the woods and hills to set up for rope rescue. Captain P. Wzientek is seen scoping out possible anchor points for descent of the hills below. Courses such as Rescue Tech-Basic teach firefighters rope rigging and anchoring required for safe rescues.

Training

Training at Union Fire is offered through a variety of State and County Level classes. Union also provides in-house training weekly. Union Truck 2 is seen setting up the ladder to the roof of an aquired structure, used for training.

County Asset Training

Union Utilizes County assets for Fire Training. Probationary Firefighter A. Weber is seen practicing cutting steel bars with a K-12 (or Partner Saw).

Forcible Entry

In the event of a true emergency, Firefighters are trained on Forcible entry to structures. Firefighters are seen here in the Erie County Forcible Entry Trailer, practicing on a reinforced steel door.

Auto Extirication

Even with todays advanced technology in vehicles, Firefighters must remain fluent in Automotive Victim Extrication. The aftermath of a Auto Extrication Drill can be seen here. Firefighters are trained in a slew of techniques in extricating auto accident victims, no matter how extreme the entanglement.

Study, Or just Relax?

Union's station contains a day room which can be used for everything from studying, to just relaxing and hanging out. The Day room contains a small kitchen, pool table, dart board, TV's. a fireplace, and yes, a shuffleboard Table.
