Union Firefighters had a busy night!
Beginning with a rescue call in Buffalo Creek at Burchfield Park. Chiefs and Squad 5 Responded to a report of a child down in the creek with a leg injury. With assistance from Winchester's ATV team, a quick rescue was completed from the waters edge.
Firefighters then took part in our weekly training, this week was Rescue Strut review and Car Fire Training. Firefighters brushed up on deployment of our Paratech VSK Strut system for stabilizing overturned vehicles. Afterward, the vehicle was turned right side up, and several live fire evolutions were completed. The first fire was a step-off, where firefighters act as if this were a call in real-time. Performing a 360 of the vehicle, reviewing how much fire a simple 2.5gal pressurized water can will knock down while a line is deployed.
Right as cleanup was beginning, Union was alerted for a report of a Motor Vehicle Accident with Injury. Union Chiefs and Squad 5 responded, rendering first aid, aiding in scene clean-up and assisting with traffic.
But, that was not all the night had in store, as Union was clearing the MVA, we received another EMS call, which Chiefs, Squad 5, and Rescue 7-1 responded to.
Firefighters returned to the station afterwards to clean up and re-bed hose used in our earlier fire evolutions, and enjoy some pizza.
