Firefighters perform multiple rescues in flooded neighborhood
On February 17, 2022 Union Fire along with its mutual aid partners and the Town of West Seneca Water Rescue Team performed multiple rescues, welfare checks, and mitigated/controlled hazards during flooding along Buffalo Creek in West Seneca. The Water Rescue Team along with WR1 and district chiefs started standing by at 1600 hours yesterday with final termination this morning at 0200 hours. Twenty three (23) in-water rescue personnel along with many firefighter support, operations, and command staff worked closely with Town of West Seneca OEM staff/Departments and implemented Fire District 1 & 2 flood pre-plans. During this time Reserve Fire provided town wide fire/ems coverage to relieve districts providing water rescue personnel. Union Fire’s disaster center was opened to house evacuees and the Red Cross activated to assist with placement. Hamburg Water Rescue was activated for stand-by. Thank you to all of the men and women who came out to protect the community.
